Unit of Measure
BY SANDRA BEASLEY
All can be measured by the standard of the capybara.
Everyone is lesser than or greater than the capybara.
Everything is taller or shorter than the capybara.
Everything is mistaken for a Brazilian dance craze
more or less frequently than the capybara.
That was just a teaser. To read the whole poem you need to go to the Poetry Foundation page, it is well worth the trip.

What a wonderfully unique creature the capybara must really be, based on the observations made in this poem. Love it.
The capybara is decribed so well, when I go to the zoo, I think about this.
If you ever need capybara illustrations, I suggest contacting artist Ursula Vernon. After seeing quality works such as “A Naked Mole Rat Dreams of Turnips” and “Bighorn Pears”, you will appreciate her treatment of the capybara.
A couple of her paintings that include capybaras are “St. Snargus and the Trout” and “Happy Little Capybara Visits The Mayan Underworld”.
