I’m Two Cute!

Two Cute

Today is my birthday!
I am two wonderful years old!

The funny thing is that even though I’ve been looking forward to my birthday for a long time (an estimated 11.5 months), I was still surprised when it happened. That is because we capybaras don’t pay much attention to physics or astronomy or geography or very much of anything that doesn’t involve swimming, eating or scratching. So when I got my first happy birthday wishes yesterday at around noon I was totally surprised. Melly had to explain to me about how it can be today here and yesterday or tomorrow someplace else. She says this is because the world is round but I think she is just making that up. Still, it might explain why my first birthday wishes came from so far off.

This is one of the first birthday wishes I got and also one of the sweetest:

李小蘭 : A very merry happy birthday to you, and hope your birthday blossoms into a lot of dreams come true!”

You might notice that the person’s name is in Chinese characters. That is confusing for me because I have no idea what to call him or her. In fact, I don’t even know if it is a him or a her! I do know that (s)he is a human who lives in Taiwan. And (s)he loves capybaras and has the heart of a poet. That was a really good way to start off my birthday!

After that the birthday greetings just started pouring in! I cannot believe how many friends remembered my special day (thanks to Facebook)! And it warms my heart that people all around the world (still not sure I believe it is round) have learned about capybaras because of me (and Caplin Rous). Anyway, I decided to ask people to send me birthday greetings in their native language and I would try to collect all the languages of the world into birthday greetings for me. I am going to share some of them with you.

Billie Macaw: Hello, hope you have a special hatchday, Hello. Squark skwark
Maeve O’Rourke: Lá breithe shona duit Garibaldi! (Happy birthday in Irish :))
Katie O’Neill: Katie wrote: “Kia huritau ki a koe! (Maori)

Angela DiMeglio Mitchell: Wheek wheek! (Happy Birthday in guinea pig)
Cristina Guerra: Tanti auguri di Buon Compleanno Gari! (Italian)
Unni Løvås: GRATULERER SÅ MYE MED DAGEN……..Fra norge
Rastik NiyoRah Hati: Všetko najlepšie k narodeninám 🙂 (Slovak)
@JuliaInFinland: Hyvää syntymäpäivää (Finnish)

Isn’t that great? There were more I am sure but I got so many birthday messages that I lost track of some of the languages. I apologize for that.

I would love for you to leave a comment if you want to wish me happy birthday. Even if my birthday is officially over, it’s not over until it’s over, as the saying goes.

Me eating a birthday present, a peep from Chanda Bellick

There’s a lot more to talk about my birthday but most of it is going to have to wait until later in the week. In the meantime you can see how cute I look eating one of my birthday presents, a peep. This seems wrong on so many levels. Firstly, I am an herbivore and would never eat a baby chicken. Secondly, I got baby chickens for my birthday!

Me with one of my baby chickens. This one is named Thrifty.

Yes, you are so cute Gari. I am glad you had a teriffic birthday. I love your chic’s, thrifty is super cute :). Thank you so much for also being a sport and trying the peep. I was so touched that you mentioned me and that Melly took a pic of you trying it. I will save this photo and try to print it so I can put you on my night stand.

Gari, eating Peeps is ok. They are actually made out of marshmallow instead of chicken….ask Melly she can explain the difference to you. LOL Peeps are my favorite treat at Easter! Happy birthday again!!!!
