2013 Calendar Selection

Finalized 2013 Capybara Madness Calendar

Thanks to everyone for helping me create this great calendar! I used the photos in the reverse order of their popularity so that each month you can look forward to seeing a cuter and cuter photo, culminating with “Feed Me!” in December. You can purchase the calendar here. If you commented on this post before 10/06/2012, you should have gotten an email from me with the discount code, if not, let me know.

Hope every month of 2013 is as amazing as a capybara for you!

Maple WoMER: A Rabbit Hole

Maple WoMER recovering on 09/23/12

It has been a month now since Maple Bunny got sick and transmogrified herself into Maple WoMER. She didn’t really do it to herself, she had a lot of help from the vet. And I guess her infection did its part.

This post is going to be a little gross so you might want to stop here if you are squeamish. To give you an idea of how gross it is going to be, the rabbit hole I refer to in the post title, is the hole in the side of her head that Maple has now that she doesn’t have an eye. So pretty darned gross. Turn back now if you’re not up for that.

In case you do decide to turn back, I’ll just let you know that her current prognosis is guarded. Her infection is better this week but it is still there, probably hanging around in the bones of her face. She might need to be on penicillin the rest of her life.

Ask Me Anything!

What do you want to know?

In my next blog post, I am going to answer questions from my fans. If you have a question you would like me to answer, put it in a comment on this post. The question has to be about me or about capybaras in general. I’m not going to answer questions about quantum physics or the meaning of life. Let’s be clear, I could answer those questions but I don’t want to.

That’s it for now. Except you might want to know that the Henry Vilas Zoo just got a pair of capybaras! So if your question was going to be, “Where can I see capybaras in Madison, Wisconsin?” I have already answered that.

Answers to questions posed in comments to this post can be found in the FAQ.
Look for the tab at the top of the page.

Oh Baby Capys, Why So Cute?

A herd of baby capybaras!

A friend of mine and Melly’s has two female capybaras who gave birth on the same day! And look how cute the babies are! There are 10 babies and 2 mothers altogether but you can only see 7 babies and 1 mother in this photo.

Maple WoMER: The Dread Pirate Rabbit

Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of carrot juice!

Maple WoMER (see this post if you don’t know how she got that name) has spent the past couple of weeks really living up to her name. I don’t know why she would do that because it seems like the most horrible thing ever. Not only has Melly been complaining about how much Maple costs ($2500 and counting!), but Maple has suffered a lot. This week she had to go to the vet and have her eye taken out! As terrible as that sounds, I think Maple feels better without the eye than she did with it. I don’t want to get into details about why.
