Name That Rabbit!

Is that really a rabbit?

After Maple WoMER disappeared, Oakley Bunny looked so sad and lonely. So Melly said, when the time was right, that we would get a new bunny to keep Oakley company. And then she brought home THIS from BlogPaws! Is that a rabbit? It looks like an old man having a bad hair day! But no, Melly swears she is a rabbit. She’s some sort of weird cross between a mini-lop and something called a lion head. Frankenstein’s rabbit.

What's with the ears?

You might be thinking that Melly is a terrible photographer, she can’t even focus the camera! But you’d be wrong. This new rabbit is out of focus in real life! She’s like Jupiter, not that she’s a gas giant because she’s really pretty small, but because she has no definite boundary.

Oakley is confused

Oakley doesn’t know what to make of this new rabbit either. She knows she’s a rabbit though because she tried to beat her up when Melly put them together for a few minutes. Now they are only allowed to see each other through the bars.

Penelope?

Weird as she looks, apparently we are stuck with her. Β Now she needs a name. The people who turned her in to Little Miracles Rabbit Rescue called her Penelope. I kind of think she wants to leave her past behind and get a fresh start. I am asking my readers to put name suggestions in the comments to this post. Next week I will put up a poll with the suggested names.

Winston Bumblebee Barcode the 1st with Lint?

You might remember that we had a contest to name my guinea pig co-pet, WBB1. He got a great name that suits him just right! I know my fans can do the same for the mystery rabbit.

Here are some initial possibilities:

  • Penelope
  • Duphfel
  • Potatoe
  • Lint
  • Bounce
  • Magnolia

We are no longer accepting name suggestions!

Please vote using the poll in the right side bar.

I was going to suggest Dust Bunny, but I think I like Lint better.

  • Kristy

How about “Dusty” as in dust bunny?

  • Stormie! She looks like a big fluffy storm cloud!

  • Alison

I dream of Jeanie with the white floofy hair.
Borne like a lint ball, from the dryer.
I see her hopping where l’il Oakley plays.
Happy as a capy who follows the whole way.

So um yeah, I vote Jeanie. πŸ™‚

  • Elizabeth

    Puff the Magic Rabbit

  • Gandalf – that picture so reminds me of of Gandalf from LOTR. Gadalf the Gray

  • Jacki Hammond

Dustabelle McLinty Poofball the 1st. πŸ˜‰

  • Julianna

Lots of great suggestions! “Lint” made me laugh out loud!

  • Kelly

She reminds me of Madame Mim from the Sword & the Stone! πŸ™‚

Oh, no! I didn’t realize Maple was gone! I’m so sorry. Sending good bunny-BFF vibes to Oakley and NewBunny and hoping they get comfy with each other. (Also, I vote for calling her “Lintilla”, because I am a Hitchhiker’s Guide fan, and she does rather look like a dust bunny.)

  • Tanya Maddox

Poofer! What happened to dear Maple?

  • Kristy Ogden

Since you said she’s like a Frankenstein, how about FRANKIE? πŸ™‚

  • rosenatti

Lintilla Jupiter Jehoshaphat I, dust bunny extraordinaire.

  • Michelle

Mary Shelley Frankenbunny, Cussywops or Cussywop (another word for Dust Bunny), Misty (for the nebulous boundaries).

But really, I have come out of lurkdom to inquire about Maple WoMER. What happened? Did I miss a post? =(

  • Buckster Bear

First name that came to mind was Fuzzy. Definitely fits the visual.

  • You should name that little dark cloud Nimbus. But lint is pretty good, she looks exactly like what comes out of our dryer.

  • I think she looks like a ‘Misty’ :)x

  • Garibaldi Rous

Maple WoMER disappeared. One day, as I was going to work, a noticed a hole under the fence and I plugged it. It wasn’t until I got home from work the next day that I realized that Maple was not in the yard. I think I locked her out. Even so, she had gotten out before and always come home in her own good time. But this time, she never returned.

  • Bootie&Pumpkin

    Rabbitouille

  • Heidi

Madame Hops A Lot, Miss Bunny Penny, Maude, or snowdrop

  • Raquel

    Mrs. Einstein! πŸ˜€

  • Fred Ross

    How about “Cannoli” or “Latka”?

  • Dusty or Fluffy the 1st.

  • Floppy No. 1 due to the ears.

  • Chrissie

    Gandalf the Grey. πŸ™‚

  • Nancy Piccirilli

    Gari,
I’m so sorry about Maple. How about Fluffernutter for the new bunny?
    Nancy

  • Liz Sack

Oh poor Maple. You must be so worried about her. I’m so sorry. =(. This new girl is so fluffy and soft looking. I love how she is so gray. Jane Goodall named one of her chimps David Graybeard because of his gray beard. So I’m thinking her named could be Gray Hoppy.

  • Sam

Following the tree theme of Oakley and Maple, what about Junipier, Holly or Willow?

  • Becky

    I like cashmere.

  • Sharon Scarborough

    I like Floofy.

  • Punkin

Duphel for the carrier bunny came home in!

  • Minta

I think, so far, that some good/fun names might be
*-Leoniney (“lee-oh-NINE-ee”), perhaps nicknamed “niney” (NINE-ee), as she is so…leonine!
-Elsa, as in the lion from “Born Free”
*-Babbity-Rabbity, from “The Tales of Beedle the Bard”
    -Flopsy from “Peter Rabbit”
    -Hazel, from “Watership Down”
-Serabi- Simba’s mom from “The Lion King” (means “mirage”, in Swahili), or
-Nala (means “successful”, in Swahili), his friend & then wife
*-Kibibi (ka-BEEB-bee”),which means “princess” in Swahili, & has a great rhythm
-Donzig, which is “downy”, in Dutch – & lops are from The Netherlands, after all…
-Grijs (pronounced “greesz”) – “gray”, in Dutch
-Leeuwin (Dutch for “lioness”), pronounced “lay-vin”…or…
-Lavinia (sounds like the above name)
    *-Cottontail
-Leonisch, pronounced “lee-OWN-eesh (Dutch for “leonine”)

I always have to wait & see who my new baby is, to make sure her/his name matches her/his personality.

I have friends thinking on this, too, so I’ll let you know what they come up with, too!

  • Shannon Zapf

Dustabelle McLinty Poofball the 1st, submitted by Jackie Hammond, is fabulous!

  • Laurie Coppola

I like Duphfel because it leads to people asking about the name, and getting a great answer!

  • Doll Parts

    Mr. Floppolopagus

  • Janet Lutkus

After much thought, I suggest “Beatrice Van Haigha (rhymes with Mayor) Bunny” for this new rabbit. I too am so sorry to hear of the disappearance of Maple W. I was just thinking of that grand pirate yesterday and wondering if there were new adventures to tell.

  • Nic

Sorry about losing Maple Gari, I’m sure he will turn up. Also I can’t seem to chose between Lint or Potato.

  • girlfromwva

    Buffy the Bunny!

  • Oh my, so many suggestions that I won’t add to them, but will definitely vote when it come time. I hope that she & Oakley can learn to get along. That’s not a nice way for Oakley to greet her. I’m glad that Winston Barcode has better manners, but then he would, wouldn’t he with a name like that. πŸ˜‰

  • Kathryn

Lint lint lint lint lint lint lint!!!!!!!

I’m praying for Maple, sweet girl.

  • Ann M. Bednarek

I like “Muffy Bun-Bun” She looks like a little muff. She is gorgeous!
