Buda Library 2013

Where are we going?

I think Melly is taking advantage of the way I have gotten used to car trips to make me do scary things. If you read my last blog post, you know she recently made me spend the night in a motel. When I get in that car, I never know what is going to happen.

My Rick hugged me

One good thing that happened is that my Rick hugged me. Normally I only allow hugs when I am in the water, but my Rick is a special case. He can hug me anywhere. When I’m in the car, I sometimes need a hug.

At the Buda Library with my Rick and some kids

It turned out we were going to the Buda Library. I have been to the Buda Library before and you can read about it in my blog post, Buda Library 2012. Apparently, Caplin Rous set a precedent so now all capybaras have to go to the library for Capybara Ambassador training once per year. I suppose this is good training. It helps me with going places because it is not far from our house. And it helps me to learn to deal with kids because there are usually a lot of them there. And it is good for Melly because she has to develop a new presentation about capybaras every year. This year she talked about capybaras in the wild. Even though I am not a wild capybara, I still had to serve as an example.

A brave capybara sitting in a chair

Did you notice that I am sitting in a chair? The kids had to sit on the ground! I didn’t have to sit in the chair but sometimes I feel a little more confident when I am up a bit higher. Plus it makes for good photos. All the kids (and most of the adults) wanted their photo taken with me.

Say cheese!

Do you think that hat is edible? It looks pretty tasty but in fact, it is not. But this is an example of what I’m talking about. I’ll bet this came out to be a pretty nice photo! I am just the right height above the floor to make myself look ginormous next to that little kid!

Reading and petting

Of course, these steps were even higher than my chair. I remember climbing them last year so I did that again this year, but not until Melly was done with her presentation. You can see from this photo that even adults like to pet me.

A better book

Now that is a good book! It isn’t as good as Melly’s new book, Celeste and the Adorable Kitten, is going to be because I have a small part in that book. Celeste and the Giant Hamster will have to do until the new book is out though. There aren’t a lot of books featuring capybaras but I think Melly is out to change that.

Getting crowded up here

Time for one last photo and then I am out of there! Kids are nice but I can only take so many of them for a short time. I need the peace and quiet of home.

Me and Sheldon in the pool

Did I mention that Sheldon went with us? He helped out at the library and then he went swimming with me and Melly when we got home. It was 102 F. today so the water felt great! We stayed in for 1.5 hours and I would have staying in longer but Sheldon said he had somewhere to go.

The picture of Rick hugging you is adorable!

I wish I could have been there to see you, I am so envious! You get braver every day, Gari. No one ran away, there was no blood, and I didn’t see any sweat!

Gari, you are making giant steps for all rodentkind!

Gari, it looks to me like you did remarkably wonderful. You are such a good sport. The kids love you. But that’s totally understandable. Where was Melly? I didn’t see her in any photos. I’m glad you decided not to eat that little boys hat. You did have your eye on it tho. Anyways I’m so proud of you. All my love Ann

So, it’s Sheldon’s treat for his services swimming with you…..we can understand that.

I think you didn’t throw up being crowded by kids, as I didn’t read that between lines. Good on you, Gari.

Gari, you are a real ambassador, proud and dignified!

  • Alena Loiselle

Good job, Gari. I’m glad to see you are up to all that fame and admiration.

I wish I could go to a library!

A Rick is a good thing to have. Every Capy should have one — the thing is – there’s only one Rick.

A Sheldon is a good thing to have — he even kisses you!

Good blog about the library trip!

I love this story. I am so happy to see you helping children learn love and respect for animals. Great story!

  • It’s good to see you using your fame to promote literacy. Way to go Gari!

I wish I lived closer so I could have been there. You are quite the Ambassador and very impressive looking in the chair.

I well deserved swim when you got home Gari. Hope someday to meet you. Love your blogs xoxo

Gari — You are such a wonderful Capy-bassador and these fabulous blogs are a good substitute for not being able to go to the library and visit with you there. Very sweet pictures of you with your Rick and your Sheldon, although I did miss seeing Melanie this time. We’ve had quite the heat wave back on the East coast this summer, so I can relate to how you feel cooling off in your nice pool. Same here!

You are getting so good at the ambassador role. You got to thrill those kids and adults. Wonderful 🙂
