Well, after a month of vacation, Melly is finally home from the hospital. As many of you know, she had a stroke in her right visual cortex. She is mostly okay but she can’t see very well. She lost vision in the left side of both eyes. It’s all very complicated but she is going to write it up as a little story, which she claims will be funny but I’m not so sure. I think I like her better without hair, although it took a little getting used to. What do you think?
Everybody has been coming over to visit since Melly got home and they are all making a fuss over her instead of me. I think this is because I was sitting on the floor whereas all of the humans were on the chairs or couches. I felt much more included when I got on my favorite blue chair. Melly says she can’t edit the photos very well so she hopes they look okay. Of course, any photo of a capybara is going to look cute, especially if it’s me (just saying).
For those of you who are too curious to wait for Melly’s full story, the summary is that she had a AV Fistula that resulted in a large bleed. She had two craniotomies (that’s where they open your brain up) in one operation, one on the right back of her skull to close up the fistula and one on the upper right to take out the “pancake” of blood that had accumulated there. This has left her with 16 inches of scar, which is totally awesome! (As long as it’s not on me.)
So glad you’re back home, Melanie! Don’t push yourself to keep up with the blog, emails, etc. We can be patient. π
I agree with Average Jane. Don’t push too hard, even though it will be frustrating just wanting to go back to doing your normal thing. We will all be here when you can update.
Gari, I am so glad Melly is home with you. You must tell her not to do too much on the computer and not strain her eyes. Also now it’s your turn to take care and pamper her like she has always done for you. I know you are a wonderful Capy and your love for her will make her stronger. Give her my love. I have missed you and Melly so much. Take care. I hope to talk to Melly soon. Your friend, Ann Bednarek <3 <3
Glad you are home Melly! please take care and get better. Good to see you and Gari on the mend. Much Love Linda C
So glad you are back home and I hope you continue to do well. I’ve really enjoyed reading about the capybaras since I found the page on Facebook.
I am relieved things are improving by leaps and bounds. I think she looks pretty cool without hair, too.
Take care and take it easy! No hassles, mate!
Average Jane and Melissa B you are so right. Melanie, we will wait, don’t push yourself. We love you too Gari but Mel is the one who takes care of you. DO what you have to do to take care of her Gari.
Much love to both and you are in my thoughts with healing wishes.
Hey, Gari! I usually don’t type, my paws keep hitting other keys, but I am so glad to see that you and Melly are reunited! I know when my big loud Ken goes away, I so miss his attention, which, like you, I FULLY deserve and should get! Sending love and bunny hugs to you and Melly and I will have an extra dandelion to celebrate Melly’s homecoming!
I didn’t know … and I’m glad you’re on the mend! Missed your, er, Gari’s posts.
I’m happy that Melly is back home. Surely you don’t mind sharing the spotlight for a little while, Gari? Everyone still adores you!
Wishing you a full recovery. Sure enjoy learning about capys.
I agree, take your time and recover … we aren’t going anywhere! Looking forward to more about the amazing Gari, but please get well first.
Melly,
So glad you are back home with Gari! You are rocking that new hair and the cool scar!
Love from NYC,
Valentina R.
So glad to hear Melly you are back home. I am sure Gari is very happy to see you. Take time to heal. Love your new hair style. It rocks!!!! We, all of your followers, will be here so rest up and get better each day. Gari behave xoxo
So sorry to hear about Mellie’s health problems. Now you have both been thru big surgeries! Be kind and be patient Gari. We ‘ll all be patient and thinking of u guys.
So glad Melly made it! I don’t think anyone wants to live in a world w/out her translations of Gari’s wonderful life!
I’m used to being the center of attention, too! I have my own special way of getting attention, and I’m sure you’ll develop techniques to turn things around at your house. Sometimes it just takes time for everything to return to the proper hierarchy. In the meantime, isn’t Flopsy there? Maybe it’s time to learn the joy of chasing cats! That would get you noticed!
Bless you dear Melly and Gari
So glad you are home and hopefully feeling a little better, Melly. Please take good care of yourself.

I did not know – but am praying for continued healing – I’m putting Melly on our DOK (Daughters of the King – http://www.doknational.com/) daily prayer list. I know you are a very, very good boy, & will watch over Melly with all your Capybara love. I hope your teeth are all better, too!
I saw a cousin of yours at the Jacksonville zoo, recently. S/he (sign didn’t say!
Whoops! Not everything was printed, so I’ll continue. S/he looked happy, as s/he was swimming & it was a beautiful, warm day, but I know she’d love to live like you do, much more! Made me a little sad, actually. Keep giving Melly attention, & you’ll get even more back! Love, love, love, love, love, Minta, Jim, Calvin, McCorkle, & Dinah (the last 3 bark & don’t know how big they are, but would love to play w/you!)
So glad to hear you’re home. Thanks for the update blog. You have been in a lot of people’s thoughts lately. Continue healing and keep the great new hairstyle. It totally rocks.

I’m so sorry to hear about your stroke, Melly, but glad to know you are back home and doing well. I’ll bet Gari was glad to see you, and you him!
Gari, I am glad to see you that Melly back home now and that the doctors sewed everything up. The new short hairstyle looks great, but I’m sorry it took brain surgery to get it. Tell Melly to get lots of rest and that Eli Piig and I hope she feels better soon!
Glad to see Melly is home and recovering.
Take good care of her Gari π
So pleased you are home safe Melly. Think how nice and easy the new ‘do’ will be to deal with! π
My partner had fistulas, but his went from his bowel to outside. After major surgery he seems to be free of them. (y)
Take care of yourself Melly, and don’t overdo things. Enjoy being pampered by Gari while you can! π xx
Gari + Melly = Good times
Glad to see you back on line! Take your time to heal and enjoy each other’s company!
Lots of love,
Beverly
So good to hear from you. I’m glad you are on the mend.
Oh, Melly!! I have been out of commission myself (but certainly nothing as serious!!), so I had no idea about what you’ve been going through. I am so glad that you are home and being given the royal (pain in the butt) treatment by Gari. Maybe now that he sat in his favorite blue chair and felt included, he will give you a little break on being gone so long!! I think you look quite smart with that short hair. I think Gari is just jealous. Please take it easy and get well. Gari better take good care of his Melly. Sending positive thoughts your way.
We are so happy to hear that you are home from the hospital! I always think that people heal faster when they are in their own house and can rest in familiar surroundings.. Hope that Gari is a good boy for you and takes great care of you. Sending well wishes Melly for a speedy recovery…
I am so thankful that you are doing better. Take care, go slow and get well! Love to you and Gari!
So, so very happy that Melly is home. I would think any time with a capy, and especially Gari, would make anyone feel better. Take care of yourself Melly – and take it easy so you can heal. Sending hugs for all.
Gari – thank you for sharing news of Melly. We all love her so!
OMG! Melly, take care of your dear self–you are MUCH too important an advocate for all things ROUS!
And, Gari, YOU do your part to see that Melly has all she needs or wants!
The Unitarians at UUFA send their regards.
I’m so glad that Melly is doing better and your home has complete homeostasis again. I can’t imagine how painful the surgery and recovery have been for her, on top of that she was not able to be with you.
So glad to hear you’re home Melly! You and Gari take good care of each other!
Gari–So glad to hear your Melly is home and healing. The new “do” does look FABULOUS! As does the wonderful sight of Melanie in her beautiful purple shawl. (And Gari, you are looking handsome as ever in your favorite blue chair, so not to worry…) I know you will keep Melly’s spirits up and help her feel better every day. I am sending positive thoughts and energy your way…:-) Janet
I totally felt there was something wrong when there was no email updates! Take it easy! Take time to relax and recover! We here on the Internet can wait and you healing is more important! Take care!
Hi Melly and Gari
So sad to hear you’ve been so ill, but hopefully all will be well now.
Thinking of you,
Robert
So glad she’s home and recovering. That is a dangerous situation, and I hope she regains her full vision.
Gari, I think you are completely right that you were overlooked because you weren’t on a chair π Love the picture of you in your chair.
Give Melly lots of hugs <3
Gari,
Give Melly a break and don’t expect always to be the center of attention!
Melly, don’t get too discouraged about your vision. There’s always some swelling after brain surgery, and it takes so long to go away. I’ve read some literature that a ketogenic diet helps brain inflammation/trauma (from any cause), so I wonder if you wouldn’t heal faster on a Adkins diet. Just an idea, but take it easy! Hope you are feeling better!
I am so glad Melly is recovering and can continue to take stellar care of you!
