Getting Better

Out for a walk in the sun

Out for a walk in the sun

Melly’s Blog:

Just a quick update on how Garibaldi Rous is doing, which is surprisingly well! He is a resilient little capybara if he is anything! In the photo above, you can see that he went out for a walk around the house today. Now that Stacy Winnick has finally left, it seems we can rid ourselves of the Seattle weather that she brought with her. Today the sun was out and it got into the low 60s, perfect for Gari’s first serious venture outside since he lost his tooth. He didn’t spend too much time outside today but tomorrow will be even warmer and I am going to move his little wading pool back outside so I think he’ll enjoy that.

I don’t have photos of it, but you’ll be glad to know that Gari has even started eating corn-on-the-cob again! He also came up while I was watching TV and asked for treats. I fed him nearly a whole container of purple grapes before he decided it was time to go rest on the bed, his usual nightly routine.

It’s a big relief to see him acting normally again but this does not mean his situation has materially improved. We made it through the first hurdle but it is a long race with a lot of hard jumps ahead.

Thanks to everyone for their comments and for the donations to the ROUS Foundation and purchases from the store. It really helps to have you all pulling for us. These are hard times but y’all do make it a little easier.

So very happy to hear you are doing so well. Having that nasty tooth out must feel better! Hope it gets hot enough outside for a good swim. Its supposed to get up to 70 here next week

  • The Seattle weather has indeed returned to its rightful owner.

Gari, my love, you make me so happy. I have to admit you did scare me for awhile. But I knew you were given the name “Super Capy” for a good reason. Keep getting stronger and eat, eat, eat! Now that Stacy is gone back home you and Melly have to look out for each other. By the way, did Melly keep the tooth they pulled?

So glad to hear a little positive news! Just continue one step at a time. I too was disheartened after Gari’s last sad news. Keep up the hope and positive thinking. We are all sending our positive energy your way. Don’t ever feel you’ve let anyone down! Janet

Please also write how you are getting on yourself, Melly! Many of your readers will recognise that life can’t be easy for you yourself nowadays, with your job, a stroke, husband and several animals to look after.

Oh, Garibara, I’m so glad you’re feeling better. It was great to see you and Flopsy on I Can Has Cheezburger, too–some people thought you were a photoshopped agouti, can you believe that? I told them to check out your website. Keep on keeping on, my friend!

I am so glad to hear this encouraging bit of news and certainly think the word “resiliant” applies to both Gari and Melanie. All of us appreciate the time taken to give us an update on what’s happening with our Super Capybara. Hoping to hear a word or two about Melanie’s progress sometime soon.
