For all of you who have been wondering what is going on with little Mudskipper Rous, here is an update.
She is doing fine. As you can see from the photo above, she loves to eat her grass. Of course, she is also big on corn on the cob, like a typical capybara. She is just over 100 lbs now. Still growing.
Her chompers are in good shape.
She’s quite athletic. She loves the water now.
She is channeling Garibaldi by rolling in the water. She is not as good at it as he was, but I expect she’ll improve in time.
Look at those feet! And you can see the tip of her nose too.
Driftwood is also doing well. Muddy dwarfs him now. She loves being with Driftwood and follows him around the house.
She also has a new cat friend, Mamba. Mamba was a feral kitten but he’s adapted well to the domestic life.
I have no idea what Mamba got into here. Probably some flowers or something. His true color is black tabby. You can just barely see some stripes on him.
Like most capybaras, Muddy gets along with everybody. So does Driftwood.
Sorry I haven’t posted in months. My vision problems keep me from working on the computer much or taking many photos. Plus everything takes so much longer now. I’ll try to be better about it.
There are more frequent updates on her Facebook page, Skipper Rous.
Karen and I are so glad to hear that Muddy is doing well and weighing in triple digits now! I imagine she’s a hefty load sitting across anyone’s lap. And it’s great to know she has special cat friends to keep her company and play with her. Karen and I especially like her upside-down pond athletics; maybe she’ll be an olympic synchronized swimming medalist someday! Best wishes for a pleasant summertime to you all.
hey sorry I know your post was about your capybara but as it appears to be the only recent post that I could see I thought I would give it a shot and see if you know any breeders or anyone selling capybaras. I am desperate to own one for our small farm/zoo ever since I noticed them at the new Orleans zoo if you could get back to me that would be great clawrence_1980@hotmail.com thanks
The ongoing adventures of two escaped capybara in Toronto (formerly of the local zoo) are the subject of Canadian national news. To satisfy Mudskipper’s celebrity fix: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/capybara-live-toronto-video-1.3628334
Muddy, you have grown so much. Your beautiful. I will always love you and all your co-pets. I think of Gari often too.
Muddy! Happy to hear that you are good!
Thank you so much for the update! I only recently found your site and was wondering what you guys were up to. She looks soooo happy and the kitties are adorable.
So good to find out what everyone has been up to. Muddy has certainly grown a lot! She seems to be enjoying life and having fun. That leap is impressive! Glad she & Driftwood are still good friends and Mamba is settling in.
