Doors. What can I say? Doors do not work as they should. See that door in the photo above? Does it look open to you? No? And guess what, a capybara cannot open that door by pushing with her nose or biting with her teeth. What is a door for if not to go in and out of?
The door in the top photo is on the back porch, there is also a door going outside from the big bedroom that I share with MelT. Recently MelT got me my own door. Actually, it’s a door in a door. Or a door for a door. Mainly, it’s a door for me that I can go in and out of whenever I want.
See how it works? I push it with my nose and that rubber flap goes up and over my back. MelT says it is a dog door but I’m not sure a dog would have a strong enough nose to work it.
It works like a charm. Going back in is pretty much the same thing, only backward.
This is what the door looks like from the outside. It is a PetSafe door. It does make me feel safer. Now if there’s a fire, or more likely, an intruder, I can get outside in a hurry. MelT is on her own.
I suppose you are wondering if I will fit through that door. Good question! It is theoretically a “large dog” door. I’m not sure how large a large dog is, but it can’t be much bigger than I am.
See what I mean? It’s a little tight. I’m planning on putting on a few more pounds in the near future — I am currently only 110 lbs because MelT doesn’t feed me enough. I wonder if I will be able to fit through or if MelT will have to get a supersized door.
Fitting my body through while lifting my leg up over the threshold is pretty hard. It takes some coordination, let me tell you!
My rear end is pretty cute, if I do say so myself.
Now that I’m inside, I can snuggle with my bear. Until next time may all your doors be open!
Muddy, you are as adorable as ever. You are also a very talented writer.
Muddy and Melanie: That last photo is a wonderful portrait of they world’s most famous capybara … very beautiful with your bear next to you! Karen and I really like that.
Don’t think of it as a dog door. Think of all those millions of dogs using a capybara door!
MelT is obviously a genius. What a lucky ‘bara you are!
I agree with Fred, it’s a cappydoor!
