Not only is a capy such a unique creature that I have trouble understanding how they could be confused with any other species - but I especially don't get how people can deem you a tapir or a peccary (which are both pretty non-cute, non-furry animals - and thus quite the opposite of a capy)

I agree, Phillip is a dork. In fact, of the three individuals in the video, the capybara is clearly the smart one.

I am simply baffled when people become so ignorant to such specific and OBVIOUS details. There is very little resemblence between you and that Peccary. I would rather hug and cuddle with you any day.

Caplin has never really been sick, except after he was neutered, so he hasn't had much occasion to visit the vet. Capys do need to go to an exotic animal specialist but you'd be really lucky to find one who'd seen a capybara before. Caplin hasn't had any vaccinations and his vet doesn't think he needs any. Vitamin C deficiency is something to watch for. Other than that, I don't know because Caplin has been so healthy. You can try reading his brother Dobby's blog, there's a link on the side bar of my page. He's had a few more health problems.

It has been so nice meeting you. I once saw this animal at the zoo. I thought they were so cute. Can I ask a question, do they require specialized vet care. LIke exotic care. Or can a regular vet treat them. Do they have to be vaccinated? and what types of diseases do they get. You really take good care of your pet. He looks like he has a good life with you and when I pass on I want to come back reincarinated as him. God bless him and hope you have many years with him. Diane in Ga.

There is a band of your wild cousins living in our lake with big caimans and boas but they seem to be OK - we are very close to Panama City, Panama and humans are their biggect threat, as usual.
