Double Trouble

Is this double trouble?

I bet you’re wondering what I mean by naming this post “Double Trouble.” You might think it means that Super Capy and I got into some mischief together. That makes no sense though since Super Capy and I are both Super HEROS not Super VILLAINS!

Capybara Adventure

The brave little capybara (not)

If you’ve been reading my blog for long, you know that I am not a very brave capybara. I get nervous even when we go on a walk on the dirt road that leads to our house. You can see how pouffy I am in the above photo. Poufiness is a general purpose capybara response, it could mean we are afraid or excited or happy. Whatever. In that photo, it means I am nervous.

Walk & Roll

The road less traveled (at least by me)

I’ve been a pretty sheltered capybara most of my life and this has taught me a few things. Firstly, I do not like to travel in cars. Cars go to the vet and the vet is scary. Sometimes cars go nowhere and you end up right back where you started. This is also scary because you don’t know that’s going to happen until a human opens the car door and lets you get out. Secondly, I learned that fear is kind of exciting. I am afraid of new things and new places and yet I crave them. It’s a paradox that I cannot resolve. I want to go outside the yard but I am sure I am going to be eaten by a monster if I do. Melly and Rick are both determined that I become accustomed to both of these things: car rides and the wide world.  This morning they decided to give me another lesson in it.

My Pawprints

My Pawtograph

The image above is my classic pawtograph. It is of my right front foot (notice that my little toe is on the outside not on the inside like on humans). Of course, a real pawprint doesn’t look quite like that. Really they are messy and indistinct and I normally smudge the front ones up with the back ones when I walk over them.

The Front 15

Me in the Bluebonnets

This weekend my owner made this big deal about how we had to get my picture taken in the bluebonnets. Bluebonnets are the Texas state flower and it is like a ritual here for people to get their photo, or their kids or their pets photos, taken with the flowers. It helps that they are about the first flower to bloom in this part of the country and there’s not too much else growing at that time. I think she was so obsessed by it because the past two years, basically ever since I was born, we have been in a terrible drought and there weren’t any bluebonnets so I don’t have any baby photos with me in them.

Lots of people stop by the side of the road–including freeways, which doesn’t seem to safe to me–to get their bluebonnet photos. We are lucky in that we have them right on our property. So my owner determined to get me out for a long walk in the Front 15 (that’s what we call the 15 acres in front of our house) and plop me down in those flowers for a photo. Naturally, I put up a fight.
