Popsicle eating #1
Mudskipper Rous here again after a long hiatus due to MelT’s laziness.
I hope everyone knows that July 10th is Caplin Day / Capybara Awareness Day! That’s the special day each year when we celebrate the existence of capybaras in general (and that is something to celebrate!), and Caplin Rous in particular. Continue reading “Caplin Day 2015” »
Me and Caplin Rous
Today is Caplin Day. On this day, July 10th, in 2007 Caplin Rous was born in Nacogdoches, Texas. I didn’t know it, but the birth of that tiny capybara would change my life. He changed other people’s lives too, teaching people around the world about the intelligent and affectionate nature of capybaras. When I lost him on January 4th, 2011, I lost a huge part of myself. Caplin + Popsicle stamp
Some of you may recognize the rubber stamp shown above. Melly has been using it on a lot of the packages she sends out from our Capybara Madness store. In fact, all of the Caplin-Popsicle necklaces have gone out with this stamp on their package, which seems very appropriate.

Caplin eating a popsicle
I debated about what to post today. It’s a hard day for me, a day when I miss Caplin Rous more than ever. This would have been a big birthday for him. Five big years old. We would have had a party in a park like we did for his second birthday. All his fans would have been wishing him another happy year. By now he would have eclipsed Capyboppy, his only contender for the World’s Most Famous Capybara title. Instead I try to promote Caplin Day, aka Capybara Awareness Day, to keep his memory from dying.
Anyway, I decided to do something simple, to just post two photos. The one above was taken in November 2010 and shows Caplin Rous eating a popsicle, the signature food of a Caplin Day celebration.
Garibaldi Rous eating a popsicle
This is the only other photo I’m posting. In celebration of Caplin Day, Garibaldi Rous ate his first popsicle.
Don’t forget that if you’d like to buy a Caplin Rous Commemorative Necklace, today is the last day they are on sale for $15. Supplies are limited. $1 from the sale of each necklace goes to the ROUS Foundation for Capybara Veterinary Medicine, founded in Caplin’s honor.
Caplin Rous eating a popsicle
Continuing on my memories of Caplin Rous as we approach what would have been his 5th birthday on July 10th. Don’t forget that if you’d like to buy a Caplin Rous Commemorative Necklace, they are on sale for $15 until his birthday. Supplies are limited.
The photo above shows why the necklace features both a capybara and a popsicle. There is nothing cuter than a capybara eating a popsicle but for some reason Garibaldi Rous will not do it. I guess that’s okay, it makes Caplin more unique.
July 10th is Caplin Day, aka Capybara Appreciation Day. Please have a popsicle in memory of Caplin Rous. Continue reading “Remembering Caplin Rous: 2008 D” »
