Caplin Day 2019

My Caplin Day popsicle

I can’t believe it is Caplin Day again already! Wow, the year went by really fast. Maybe that’s because  I haven’t been posting like I said I would for my New Year’s resolution. I guess I’m not the first capybara to fail to keep one of those.

Pool treat

Caplin Day is also known as Capybara Appreciation Day. We celebrate it on July 10th because that is Caplin Rous’ birthday. He would be 11 years old today. One of Caplin’s favorite foods was popsicles, that’s why popsicles are a traditional Caplin Day treat. I am not a huge fan of them so I just ate a little for the photo-op.

Swimming, rolling, and sleeping are also good Caplin Day festivities. Unlike the noisy celebrations humans like (I’m talking about you July 4th!), capybaras prefer a subdued affair with family and close friends. MelT and I celebrated alone this year. I guess that is about as subdued as it gets. Unless I had to celebrate alone, but then who would feed me my popsicle and that the pictures?

Let me know if any of you had a fun Caplin Day!

Caplin Day is coming!

Before we get started on my amazing experience with TV, let me mention something even more important. Caplin Day is coming! Caplin Day, also known as Capybara Appreciation Day, is celebrated on July 10th, Caplin Rous’ birthday. He would have been 10 this year so this is a big one. Of course, we are also celebrating Garibaldi (Gari) Rous, and all other capybaras living or dead. Continue reading “My First TV Production” »

Mudskipper Rous here again after a long hiatus due to MelT’s laziness.

I hope everyone knows that July 10th is Caplin Day / Capybara Awareness Day! That’s the special day each year when we celebrate the existence of capybaras in general (and that is something to celebrate!), and Caplin Rous in particular. Continue reading “Caplin Day 2015” »

Caplin Day 2013

Me and Caplin Rous

Melly’s Blog:

Today is Caplin Day. On this day, July 10th, in 2007 Caplin Rous was born in Nacogdoches, Texas. I didn’t know it, but the birth of that tiny capybara would change my life. He changed other people’s lives too, teaching people around the world about the intelligent and affectionate nature of capybaras. When I lost him on January 4th, 2011, I lost a huge part of myself. Gari Stamp

Caplin + Popsicle stamp

Some of you may recognize the rubber stamp shown above. Melly has been using it on a lot of the packages she sends out from our Capybara Madness store. In fact, all of the Caplin-Popsicle necklaces have gone out with this stamp on their package, which seems very appropriate.
