This was my first real New Year’s with my family. Last year it was just me and Rick because Coral and Melly were down in Panama looking for the elusive lesser capybara. But this year I got to see what it is all about.
New Year’s is the big celebration for us so Melly goes all out decorating. Luckily, she only decorates one room so I don’t have to deal with all that clutter in other parts of the house. Then Coral and Philip, Melly’s kids, and Philip’s little family consisting of Monica (Philip’s wife) and Celeste (Philip’s daughter) all come over. Melly told them to come at 3 pm on New Year’s Eve so they actually arrived around 7 pm.
Do you see those presents on a little table against the far wall? That is what New Year’s is all about. Everyone gets presents and that is fun.
I was nervous because I didn’t know what was going on. I asked Flopsy the Killer Cat but it was his first New Year’s also and, anyhow, he never knows what’s going on. Decoy Piig wasn’t talking.
Apparently this New Year’s thing has been going on for a long time. You can tell because Melly took this photo of Philip and Coral holding a photo of Philip and Coral holding a photo of Philip and Coral holding a photo of Philip and Coral! I don’t know how far back those photos go but they all seem to be taken on New Year’s in the past. This was the first appearance in the photo for both the “Philip” dinosaur and the owl. Not sure if they’ll make it next year.
At midnight they all went crazy and make a lot of scary noises with things called “poppers.” I was glad to be hiding in the bedroom. It was scary even from there.
The next day was much better, not so noisy. And Melly made cookies and I got to eat a little bit. Philip and Coral and Monica played a few games of Pandemic. I tried to help but Philip would not listen to my advice. Also, he wouldn’t feed me any more cookie.
Later I hung out with Philip on the couch. I don’t know why Caplin Rous hated him so much, he seems nice to me.
Then I hung out with Celeste. She is a little bit afraid of me though and kept changing couches. So I changed too. And then she changed. And then I changed. We got along fine.
Melly got gifts for everyone, including herself. She says she is going to make capybara quilts with this new sewing machine. I’ll believe it when I see it. Maybe the machine can sew by itself.
I got a present too! I got a new bench with a cushion on the top. Melly put it next to a window where I can look outside. I’m not sure if I like it yet or not. It usually takes me a while to warm up to a new bed. But you know what they say, it’s the thought that counts!
Happy New Year Everyone!
That looks like a fun party! Your new bench is beautiful. I hope you learn to like it. Capy new year, GarBear!
You were the star of the celebration, Gari!
Happy New Year, Gari the capy!
You look so handsome one your new bed.
Wait…Melly has human kids?! I thought Caplin, you, and your co-pets were Melly’s kids!
Our kitty cat won’t sleep in any bed but his original bed which is dirty and tattered and it has seen better days. But he’ll just sleep on the floor rather than touch a new, clean bed. So the old bed stays! Happy New Year!
Wow that’s a beautiful bed!!!
Hope it comes w/darker colours!
Maybe Melly will make a gazillion for you!
A happy and healthy New Year, Gari, to you and your family!
Ooh, sounds like a happy new year had by all, you included. Love that you insisted on keeping Celeste company, and I love your new bed. I think you will find it very nice to be able to sit on it and look out the window 🙂 That’s quite a sewing machine. Not sure I could manage it, but I hope Melly can and enjoys it! I hope 2013 continues to be a great year for you all 🙂
Happy New Year. Love your bed. Enjoy the window view. 🙂
I forgot to mention that the picture idea is a great one! A picture in a picture in a picture…
Mom and I love your bed.
