Mud Therapy

A mud bath is good for the body & spirit

Today I had a bit of a scare. I admit, I do scare easily. Here’s what happened, Melly and Rick trapped me in the house and forced me into my harnesses (you’ll recall that I have to wear TWO, which is twice as lame). I was soooo worried that they were going to take me back to the vet! I do not want to go back there! Not today, not tomorrow, not next week, not never!

After I had my harnesses on, Melly and Rick forced me to get into the car! That stupid car took me to the vet last time I got in it and I sure did not want to do that again! I put up a valiant struggle but when Rick got in first, I had to follow him. I like to think Rick wouldn’t lead me into danger, that Melly is the one who hates me so much that she makes me go to the vet, but I have to admit that Rick was with us when we went there last time. Still, I can’t let Rick leave me behind.

The good news is that we didn’t go to the vet! We went to PetsMart, where the pets art! That’s bad enough but it is 1,000,000 times better than going to the vet, and not so far either. There were dogs at PetsMart. I don’t like that because dogs scare me (but not as much as the vet scares me). I kept my nose on the back of Rick’s knee and pretended I didn’t see them. There are no dogs! There are no dogs! That’s what I said to myself. The power of positive thinking and all that. Only I guess that was negative thinking because I was thinking about there not being any dogs.

We went straight to the back of the store and I got on the scale. Melly and Rick were talking about how much weight I must have lost since I haven’t been eating well. Five pounds? Ten pounds? Would I be too emaciated for the dental work they want to do? (Hope so!) Only guess what! I didn’t lose any weight! In fact, I weighed five pounds more than I did when I was at the vet, a nice round 120 lbs! I must say, I carry my weight well.

When we got home, Melly and Rick took me into one of the back pastures, the one with no horses in it, to see if I wanted to graze on the measly grass that is growing there. Honestly, there wasn’t even enough to notice. Sometimes I wish it would rain because I would like to see this “fresh, green grass” they speak of.

But Melly had a hose out there to water the nothing that was growing. I don’t know if you know this, but if you take bare earth with nothing growing and add water, you get MUD! Mud, mud, glorious mud!

Mud, mud, glorious mud!

I hear that sometimes humans pay loads of money to take mud baths. I don’t have to pay, which is lucky, but whatever you do have to pay, it is worth it! Oh, how I love a good roll in the mud!

Ode to Mud

Squish, squirm, smash up some worms!
Cover me with cool slimy mud!
Squiggle, squabble, can’t put in a bottle,
The joy that I feel as it churns!

Let me share my mud with you

I came over to Melly to share my mud because for some weird reason she didn’t want to roll with me. Instead of showing the proper appreciation, she warded me off using the holder for my leash. Humans, who can understand them?

My green pool two days ago

After my roll in the mud, we went back into the yard. In order for me to get my harnesses off, I have to get into my little green pool. The photo above shows me enjoying the green pool a couple of days ago.

My green pool today

Do you see what my green pool looks like now? Are you proud of me? I am super proud of me! I transferred all of that mud from the pasture to my pool on my own body! Believe you me, that takes some talent! Sadly, even though the pool looks pretty muddy, it does not have the oozy, squishiness that makes a mud roll so pleasant. It still feels pretty much like regular water.

In my big pool

Melly won’t let me get into my big pool until I am all clean…unless I can sneak by her. Today I could not sneak by. I guess it is kind of nice to be able to see where I am swimming.
