Spring Picnic

Me and Leopolda picnicking

We’ve been having some beautiful weather here lately so I have been spending a lot of time outside. As you can see from the photo above, I am not the only one who appreciates a little sunshine. That is my co-pet, Leopolda, aka Leah. She is an African leopard tortoise and she has been living with Melly for about 33 years, which is a long, long, long time.

Leah eating

Normally I don’t eat with Leopolda because she is more into eating grass and the leftover parts of kale, chard or lettuce that I refuse as pool treats. But yesterday, Leah had something new and different. She had a head of cabbage!

Really? Is this stuff any good?

I wasn’t really hungry, having just eaten a big bowl of grass mixed with lettuce and a couple of pieces of corn. Still, there’s nothing to whet the appetite like seeing someone else eating, so I decided to give it a try. I have to say, cabbage is a bit too chewy, but the flavor isn’t bad.

Don't eat with your mouth open!

Melly says I look cute eating with Leopolda. I say she looks cute eating with me! After all, if one of us needs the other around to look cute, it is the tortoise that needs the capybara. We capybaras look cute 24/7, we don’t need to be posed with a tortoise, nothing personal to Leah.

Pig in the sun

Winston Bumblebee Barcode the 1st got to spend some quality time in the sun too, although he had to stay in a pen so I didn’t get to play with him. He did get a few bites of cabbage. I don’t mind sharing with WBB1 because he doesn’t eat much. Leah is okay to eat with too because she is a very slow eater, this results in her not eating much whether she wants to or not.
