It’s not easy being a Capybara Ambassador (in training). It’s not all tweeting and posting cute photos. Some of it involves actual, inperson (incapybara?) interaction…with children! I’m not saying I’m scared of children or anything, after all, they’re just baby humans, but there is something a little intimidating about them. Maybe it’s how active they are. Or how noisy. Or that there are always a lot of them. But it’s an important part of my job so I do it willingly, even if I do shake a little and sweat a lot.
I decided to wear my Super Capy cape to make me feel braver. I wish it worked better with my leash, though. The darned leash is always pulling the cape to one side. Here I am in the school parking lot, getting ready to make my big appearance.
So here I am with the school sign. You can see what a problem the leash is with my cape. Still, having it off one shoulder like that is making a pretty bold fashion statement.
Here we are at the school. Do you see that great sign the kids made? This is the first time anyone has ever made a sign for me. And the sign is really wonderful, but before I go into it, I want to talk about the kids.
For this visit, I was Capybara Ambassador (in training) for two second grade classes. These kids were so smart! They knew the answers to almost all of Melly’s questions. The even knew the second largest rodent is the beaver. And they all identified the porcupine quill right away. Plus a bunch of the kids have pet hamsters or guinea pigs at home. Oh, that reminds me that we brought Winston Bumblebee Barcode the 1st along and all the kids got to hold him. They didn’t let him go even once and no one dropped him either. So not only were the kids smart, they were good with animals. And not only were they good with animals, they were all very well behaved. They almost always raised their hands instead of blurting out a question or an answer.
