Caplin Day isn’t just about Caplin and Gari, or even Caplin and Gari and Mudskipper. Since it is also Capybara Appreciation Day, it is about all capybaras, living and dead. That’s why I included this photo of Dobby on his 3rd birthday. He is alive and well and 9.5 years old now. Quite the handsome capybara.

Countdown to Caplin Day: 8

Like all babies, Caplin Rous got in his share of trouble. From climbing on counters, to biting holes in hoses, he was all capybara. That’s one of the great things about Caplin Day, remembering how cute capybaras are, but also what troublemakers they are. You’ve got to have a lot of patience to live with a capybara.

Countdown to Caplin Day: 9

Celebrating the 4th

It is now 9 days until Caplin Day, July 10th. Time to make preparations for your celebrations. There are many ways to celebrate Caplin Day, aka Capybara Appreciation Day, but none of them is fireworks. Fireworks are more likely to scare a capybara than to make them feel loved and appreciated. This is also true on July 4th, US Independence Day. Remember to keep your capybaras and other animals safe. Don’t let your capybara, dog, cat, horse, lemur, or whatever other animal you have, sneak out on its own!

Caplin Day 2014

July 10th is Caplin Day, also known as Capybara Appreciation Day. We celebrate this day in honor of Caplin Rous (2007/02/10 – 2011/01/03) . He would have been seven this year. This year we are also celebrating the life of my beloved Garibaldi Rous (2010/03/11 – 2014/02/16).
